Clark Kent was born Kal El on the planet Krypton, but it blew up. He was sent to earth by his father to be a shining example to all of humanity.
He was adopted by John and Martha Kent in Smallville Kansas, and grew up a relatively normal boy, except for the whole, super strength, speed and invulnerability thing. That and the heat and x-ray vision. When he was 18, Johnathan Kent died of a heart attack, and Clark found the Fortress of Solitude where he met and was taught by his biological father Jor El.
Clark then moved to Metropolis where he gained work as a reporter for the Daily Planet, and began fighting crime as Superman. It was there that he met, and fell in love with Lois Lane. Forbidden to interfere with human history, Jor El punished Clark by removing his powers.
Shortly thereafter, Earth was invaded by rogue Kryptionians led by General Zod. Superman's powers were returned to him so he could defeat Zod, but Jor El was not done teaching Clark the true value of his abilities. Once more stripped of his power, Clark was informed that he would only be able to use them when he absolutely needed to, and even then, he would not be fully empowered save in the most dire circumstances, at which point he may return as Superman.
Till then, he has moved to Fandom to pursue life as a normal bachelor.
